He was born February 20th in Showa 29 (1954). He is the oldest son of Komiya Kunisada, a 74 year old swordsmith. He has two younger brothers, Yasumitsu (47) and Kunimitsu (44), both swordsmiths. They live and work in Omuta-shi in Fukuoka Prefecture.
Kunitada swords are reknowned for iaido and tameshigiri and highly sought after with a substantial waiting list. All their blades are traditionally made, with an emphasis on strength and sharpness. This sword is in a solid tameshigiri or iaido koshirae, and polished for tameshigiri.
Though it is in polish for cutting practice, it is actually quite enjoyable, with an o-choji hamon. The jihada has not been accentuated by the polish, but is ko-mokume mixed with masame. For a cutting sword, it is quite attractive.
